En realidad no es muy común que haya canciones sobre guitarras propiamente dichas, aunque sí que suele haber bastantes referencias más o menos indirectas. Después de todo, la guitarra es EL INSTRUMENTO de la música “popular” moderna.
En “Sultans of Swing”, se dice “an old guitar is all he can afford”, por ejemplo.

Hay algunas canciones que tratan directamente de guitarras. Por ejemplo me viene a la cabeza “Perfectly good guitar” de John Hiatt, sobre el hecho de romper guitarras. O “This old guitar”, de Neil Young:
This old guitar, ain’t mine to keep.
It’s mine to play for a while

Hay otra canción que se llama igual de John Denver.
Por cierto, la frase “old guitar” se ha vuelto un chiclé. ¿Será porque a todos los guitarristas nos gustan las guitarras viejas?

Sin embargo, lo más curioso es que casi casi nunca (o al menos yo apenas conozco casos) en los que se nombre a una guitarra nombrando el modelo. Yo tengo dos referencias concretamente a Martin, y son las únicas que conozco.

La primera, más “accidental” es “Listen to the radio” de Nanci Griffith.

I’ve got a 00-18 Martin guitar in the back seat of my car.
I am leaving Missisipi with the radio on

Esta frase sóla creo que, para mí, ha sido decisiva en cuanto a mi manía y admiración por las Martin. Lo mitómanos que somos los guitarristas…

Pero no hace mucho he conocido una canción que, directamente, se llama “D-18 song (thank you Mr Martin)”, cosa que me parece bastante insólita. No se me ocurre casi ningún caso de hacer una canción sobre un objeto enfatizando la marca, quizá con la excepción de coches (que de mitificar coches saben mucho los americanos, como en “Silver Thunderbird”)
Copio la letra, que yo la noto tremendamente emotiva y sincera y a la vez la encuentro muy graciosa .

A mí me encanta la parte de comparativa. Deberían usarla en las propagandas.

Bueno, ya sabemos que Martin tiene un aura bastante especial alrededor, sobre todo en lo referente a las guitarras pre-war, y teniendo en cuenta que durante muchísimos años no había alternativas reales de gran calidad de sus modelos más representativos.

Sin embargo, hay otras guitarras que podrían tener alguna canción igual o parecida (la strato, la tele o la Les Paul) y sin embargo, yo al menos no conozco ninguna… ¿Que tendrán las Martin que a los que nos gustan nos gustan tanto?
